world water day 2010

The Malaysian International Hydrological Programme (UNESCO-IHP Malaysia), in cooperation with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE), the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA), and in collaboration with the Malaysian National Commission for UNESCO (NatCom), Department of Irrigation and Drainage Malaysia (DID Malaysia) and other federal and state agencies will be celebrating World Water Day on 27 March 2010 in Muar, Johor Malaysia.

The launch ceremony will be held at Tanjong Emas Recreational Park, Muar Johor and will be officiated by YAB Tan Sri Dato' Haji Muhyiddin Mohd Yassin Deputy Prime Minister, on the 27 March 2010 .

The theme for World Water Day 2009 is “Communicating Water Quality Challenges And Opportunities” with the slogan "Clean Water For a Healthy World". The World Water Day 2010 celebration and its activities are envisaged to raise awareness about sustaining healthy ecosystems and human well-being through addressing the increasing water quality challenges in water management as well as raising the profile of water quality by encouraging governments, organizations, communities, and individuals around the world to actively engage in proactively addressing water quality issues and challenges in pollution prevention, clean up and restoration.

Among the jointly organized activities throughout the celebration of WWD 2010 are National Exhibition, Conference on Hydrology and Environment , Higher Learning Institute Best Hydrology and Water Resources Thesis Award, Coloring & Drawing Competition, Young Leadership Camp, National Essay Competition, Open Day for Water Treatment Plant, Media Talks Shows, Radio Quiz Program, Water Sensitive Urban Design Workshop, Flood Forecasting Study Seminar, Scavenger Hunt, International Symposium on Harmonising Environmental Considerations with Sustainable Development Potential of River Basins, Water Talk Shows and World Water Day Expo.
